🥟 [Gaeseong – Traditional Korean Dumpling Soup in Seoul’s Seosulla-gil]
A quiet hidden gem for lovers of simple, clean Korean flavors
If you're wandering around the charming alleyways of Seosulla-gil in Jongno, Seoul, and craving something traditionally Korean, Gaeseong (개성) is worth checking out.
It’s a small Korean restaurant that specializes in dumpling soup (Mandu-guk) and boiled pork slices (Suyuk) — both very traditional and comforting dishes.
🥢 What We Ordered
We had:
-
2 bowls of Mandu-guk (dumpling soup)
-
1 plate of Suyuk (boiled pork slices)
🥟 Mandu-guk (Dumpling Soup)
This wasn’t your usual strongly flavored soup.
Instead, the taste reminded me of Pyeongyang-style naengmyeon — clean, subtle, and gentle.
The broth was mild but satisfying, with a depth that lets you really appreciate the flavor of each ingredient.
If you prefer natural-tasting dishes over spicy or heavily seasoned ones, this will be a perfect fit.
🐖 Suyuk (Boiled Pork)
Although the suyuk wasn’t available for full orders that day (they were almost sold out), the kind owner still served us a small portion for free — truly generous!
The pork was tender and paired perfectly with the clean soup.
It added just the right amount of richness to balance the meal.
🏠 Atmosphere & Location
The restaurant is quite small inside, but clean and cozy.
It’s easy to miss if you're not paying attention — especially since it blends into the buildings around it.
So when you're getting close, make sure to slow down and look carefully for the sign!
💬 Final Thoughts
This place isn’t for those looking for bold, spicy flavors.
But if you enjoy Pyeongyang-style dishes or want something soothing and light, Gaeseong offers an excellent experience.
We left feeling satisfied, warmed up, and grateful — especially for the kind service.
